I have been praying things will turn around for us in this New Year. Fingers are crossed, wishes have been made upon everything.
One of the last sunsets of 2010. This is Mt. Spokane - the mountain that dominates the field of view from my house.
Last morning of 2010
I went snowshoeing out in our pasture, it was -10° F, but it was beautiful - snow glitter everywhere, for a moment I felt confident it was the best light show in the world.
Snow depth is not too bad - but only half of what we had in 2009.
The chickens are not impressed by this cold snap, but are doing ok. I am about tired of having the dogs inside every night though. They have very expensive heated dog houses so they can stay outside but when it's this cold - we let them in. AMAZING how fast they turn into "house dogs."
The snow we got over the holidays knocked out power for a little bit. This why. The snow collect on the lines and the lines will begin to bow and then the snow falls off, the lines will bounce from the change in weight and break or reset the nearest transformer. When that happens we lose our internet because we loose the wi-fi router. Because we have DSL now, if I wanted to I could run upstairs in the dark and plug into the wall.
But we are usually busy doing other things like shutting off anything that was on so when the transformer automatically resets itself (or when the power company gets the power back on) there isn't so much of a sudden draw that it goes down again, also we'll be firing up the fireplace and or generator depending on how cold it is outside and filling up the bath tubs with water, while we have it. In our area you never know how long you'll be out. Once we were out of power for a week when I was in college. And when I was a kid a major summer storm complete with tornados put the area out of power for two weeks.
But this time it came back after only an evening without. Since it was so cold we went ahead and fired up the big generator which can run our furnace. Hubby has it wired in properly so that there be no back feeding happening if the power came on while the generator was running. He can be handy like that.
This tree made me sad.
Beautiful sky through a snowy forest at the back of our property.
Old aspen tree in the neighbors field.
Had to sneak in some more Christmas shots. I rather liked our tree. Real trees are the best, we get one every year but we take them from our own property and never in a way that would damage the area.
We've had the same tree decorations year after year and I always think its pretty and have never gotten sick of them. I have taken such good care of my Christmas decorations we've have bought new ones in 10 years.

Prayers are going out for a blessed new year full of the LORDs love and blessings:) I love your pictures!!! You are an amazing photographer. I especially love the cross one with all the ice. It is amazing!!!
Such a beautiful view from your house! Love it!
We're the same way with our dogs. When it gets freezing, I let them in. But then I spend the next day trying to get all the dog hair out.
Here's to a wonderful new year!
Aw Steph! Ya just had to go and do it, didn't you? Now I'm homesick for Alaska again!
How did you like snowshoeing?
Love your pics!
wv: neweat- what you and I are doing, finding new ways to eat!
Oh I liked snowshoeing this is the second time I have been able to bust them out. Good workout and I was happy to be able to traverse the deep pasture snow - works on our little county road too the built in crampons give me traction when the snow has a compact base, but you do need some fluff in the snow or they are stiff and uncomfortable.
Too soft and you fall through anyway - to hard and they are no fun. There is a base under the powder now so its perfect.
Brrr! But makes for beautiful pictures.
I, too, am hoping for an improvement from 2010!
Cheers!
Things will be better in 2011. Everyone I know is keeping fingers and toes crossed. Your shots are perfection. I wish I could tell you a way to market them. You have the talent and the eye. Good things are on the way.
We all need things to turn around. We add our wishes to yours!
It is so pretty there with all the snow and that blue sky! Gorgeous!
We let our dogs in at night when it's really cold too, and yep, doesn't take long for them to think they are now indoor dogs only! All they want to do is come inside! But I can't stand leaving them out in the cold, well, they usually sleep in the garage, but it does get very cold in there.
Beautiful pictures - snow is good for that at least! :-)
I hope 2011 is much, much better for you!
I didn't even realize there was a Mt Spokane. Guess I think of that side of the state being flat when it's really not.
The snow is beautiful. Ours is finally gone and I am relieve but they say more is coming. YUCK!
Hope things turn around for both of us this year. There are signs the economy in our area might be picking up.
We use the same ornaments over and over here too. Seems like we've purchased them one or two at a time over the years and each has a story. Looking at that tree is like looking at a little piece of our family history.
